I guess next in line is Nathan's Surgery. It was sooo sad. We felt so bad because the poor little guy had no idea what was going on. We, and the doctor, were surprised when he ended up having a hernia, a cyst, and a hydrocele. Poor kid! It was so hard to let the doctors take him away to the operating room, and then to sit there and wait until he woke up again. Luckily they gave him some "silly juice" before they took him so he was already a little out of it and didn't really think too much about it when they took him from us to go to surgery. That would have made it even worse if he would've been screaming when he left. The hardest part was when he woke up. It was the saddest thing ever! He was so out of it and was crying and screaming and would not settle down. I could not get him to calm down. I felt so bad. So then Josh tried and after about twenty minutes or so, which felt like much longer, and some more pain medicine, he finally fell asleep. He slept for about an hour and a half and then woke up again. This time was much better. He wasn't quite so out of it and was able to drink some juice. They let us go home after a while, and Nathan just fell back asleep again before we even got to the car. Poor little guy couldn't even eat the popsicle that the nurse gave to him! He slept a lot that evening and didn't really eat much, which I was very glad about when he threw up all over me. Luckily it only happened once. He woke up in the middle of the night and said he wanted to walk around. What! So he tried to walk but he soon realized he was still really weak and just went back to sleep. I'm still amazed at how quickly he healed. He had surgery Monday, Tuesday he was still pretty weak, sore and tired, and by Wednesday he was back to his normal self. He still walked with a little limp and couldn't run as fast, but he sure was trying and wanted to just get out and play. So the recovery part was really fast. Today he can finally ride his bike again. He wasn't supposed to do any straddle toys for two weeks, and that is today. Hooray! Anyway, that is the rundown of the surgery. What a tough, brave little boy! We are sure glad to have it over with and especially glad that everything went well!
He didn't want to wear the pajamas there, so we talked him into it by letting his puppy wear his clothes. It wasn't too long before he just took his top off. I don't blame him, they were huge for him.
They sprayed strawberry stuff on the oxygen mask and Nathan loved it. He said it smelled like watermelon juice. He got to take it home with him and still wanted to smell it for a couple days. Funny kid!
This was after he had the silly juice, before they took him to surgery. Dazed and out of it! He was pretty funny!
After surgery when he finally relaxed and fell back to sleep.
Sound asleep back at home.

Poor Nathan..I can't believe he had all those things going on! Even though I get to see this kind of stuff I still can't believe how sad it makes me for the little KIDS and the PARENTS! You were brave...I am sure it was soo hard watching! And I don't blame Nathan, those hospital gowns are no fun and not even very cute for kids! I am glad everything went well for him and he has healed well..Good Job Nathan!!
